Man United in talks over shock pre-season friendly in Scandinavia with Championship club
Manchester United are reportedly in discussions over a pre-season friendly against a Championship club in Scandinavia.
United endured a tough start to the 2025/26 season and at one point, Ruben Amorim appeared to be at serious risk of losing his job.
However, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe publicly moved to support the Portuguese coach, declaring that he would be given at least three years to turn things around at Old Trafford. Since then, United have enjoyed an uptick in performances and results.
The Red Devils have lost just one of their last nine Premier League appearances. Their most recent result, a 4-1 triumph over Wolverhampton Wanderers , catapulted the club to sixth place in the top-flight standings.
United are firmly in the frame for a top-four finish and with one game a week due to the lack of European football, there is every chance that they will achieve this objective.
Meanwhile, decision-makers at United are already looking ahead, with a new report claiming talks are underway to face Wrexham in Scandinavia as part of pre-season preparations for the next campaign.
According to the Daily Mail , “While nothing is set in stone at this stage, discussions have been held about Ruben Amorim’s side facing the Hollywood-backed team in Europe next summer.”
“Both clubs are in the process of navigating their pre-season schedules with the World Cup in North America complicating their plans.”
“A European friendly, expected to be in Scandinavia, would prove hugely popular given the popularity of both clubs.”
“One source suggested United are weighing up playing two friendly matches in Scandinavia this summer.”
If a deal goes through, it would not be the first time United have come up against Wrexham in pre-season. They faced off in July 2023, with the Championship club coming out 3-1 winners in San Diego.
United and Wrexham both declined to comment when contacted by the Daily Mail for comment.
