Man Utd ease past relegation-threatened Wolves

Manchester United moved up to sixth in the Premier League after a commanding 4-1 victory over a woeful Wolves, stretching their unbeaten run away from Old Trafford to five league games.

Wolves, sitting rock-bottom with just two points from 14 matches, needed a bright performance to stop their slump. However, it was United who took control from the outset.

Early chances for Diogo Dalot and Bryan Mbeumo were comfortably saved by Sam Johnstone , but the breakthrough came in the 25th minute. Casemiro won possession in midfield, fed Matheus Cunha , who cleverly squared for Bruno Fernandes to bundle the ball home, despite slipping in the wet conditions.

The hosts did offer a glimmer of hope just before half-time when David Moller Wolfe cut the ball back for Jean-Ricner Bellegarde , who fired a low shot into the corner to end a lengthy Premier League goal drought.

United, however, were quick to reassert themselves after the break. Dalot broke through the Wolves defence and set up Mbeumo for a simple finish, restoring the visitors’ lead.

Mason Mount then added a third with a precise volley from a perfectly timed Fernandes pass, leaving Wolves chasing shadows. The scoring was wrapped up in the 82nd minute when a handball from Yerson Mosquera gave Fernandes a spot-kick, which he dispatched calmly to complete the emphatic win.

The defeat stretched Wolves’ miserable run to eight straight league losses, keeping them firmly rooted at the bottom of the table.

For United, the victory provided a timely boost, moving them up to sixth and just a point behind fourth-placed Crystal Palace as they aim to build momentum.
