Manchester United's five-game unbeaten run came to an end on Monday night at Old Trafford. Looking to continue their fine form, Ruben Amorim's side were stopped in their tracks by a solid Everton side who came away with a 1-0 victory, despite being down to 10-men for most of the contest.

As is the case with the strength of the English top-flight, the schedule rarely gets any easier. United next travel to fifth-placed Crystal Palace on Sunday in a bid to return to winning ways.

United's deficiencies has Amorim reportedly looking to the transfer market, while the Portuguese boss has sounded off on his side's issues ahead of their visit to Selhurst Park. Mirror Football delves into the latest headlines surrounding Old Trafford.

While United transformed their attack in the summer with the signings of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, a midfield signing was not acquired. It wasn't for the lack of trying given the club were interested in Brighton's Carlos Baleba but his reported valuation of £104million meant a deal didn't materialise.

United's engine room is certainly in need of a revamp with Casemiro turning 34 in February and Manuel Ugarte's inability to adapt to the Premier League causing Amorim issues.

According to a Spanish report, via TEAMtalk , the Portuguese boss is "planning to submit" a £105m bid for Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde. The 27-year-old has made 341 appearances for the Spanish giants in his eight-year spell at the club which has resulted in him winning 14 major honours.

However, reports have been strife surrounding his unhappiness at Madrid under Xabi Alonso who has played the Uruguayan at right-back since October due to injuries to Dani Carvajal and Trent Alexander-Arnold .

It hasn't been the best lead-up to the tough fixture against Palace in terms of injuries, with Amorim revealing that Harry Maguire , Cunha and Sesko will miss the match. Sesko, who cost United £74m this past summer, has started just six league games this season and has only two goals to his name.

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, saving members £192 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.

The Slovenian was forced off in their 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur with a knee injury and pulled out of international duty earlier this month. In Friday's pre-match press conference, Amorim said he'll remain without the services of his striker. The United boss said: "Sesko is going to take a little bit more time, [Harry] Maguire again the same."

Amorim's 3-4-3 system has received much criticism during his time in England, with the manager sticking to his guns. The placement of Luke Shaw as a left centre-back in the defeat to Everton , with Shaw traditionally a left-back, was subject to the ire of Gary Neville who questioned the decision .

The trip to Selhurst Park on Sunday will see a battle of 3-4-3 systems, given Oliver Glasner plays the same formation. Unlike many, the Austrian defended his fellow manager's insistence on the system, admitting it's helped United in attack.

The Palace boss said: "It's really funny talking about the 3-4-3 system, and I think United have the highest xG in the Premier League for scoring goals. Their team has changed. Especially in attack. They needed more goals and they invested £200m, buying three players up front.
