Manchester United come up against the Premier League's form team in Aston Villa on Sunday. Ruben Amorim's side played out a thrilling 4-4 draw with Bournemouth last time out.

United have climbed up to sixth in the top-flight table after a dismal beginning to the season, but they face a tall order when they travel to Villa Park. Unai Emery's squad have won their last nine games in all competitions.

Bryan Mbeumo will be missing, having departed for the Africa Cup of Nations, but it's a former United midfielder making headlines after Scott McTominay's Napoli progressed to a cup final in Italy. Mirror Football brings you all the latest from Old Trafford, including a Napoli director speaking out about potentially signing a wantaway United star.

McTominay has thrived since leaving Old Trafford in 2024 for Napoli, having won a league title and been named Serie A's Most Valuable Player last year for his contributions.

On Thursday evening, his side faced AC Milan in a crunch Supercoppa Italiana semi-final and they emerged as 2-0 victors thanks to goals from David Neres and United loanee Rasmus Hojlund.

But in the 81st minute, with Napoli 2-0 to the good a fight broke out. McTominay committed a foul in midfield and the referee blew the whistle. But as he did, the ball rolled towards ex-Chelsea star Fikayo Tomori.

Tomori, with McTominay still running at him, booted the ball at the Scottish international. McTominay did not take kindly to this and squared up to Tomori, with team-mates flooding in to break the pair up.

Words were exchanged and McTominay was furious. Both players received yellow cards for the altercation which mainly consisted of pushing and shouting and the game ended 2-0.

If transfer rumours are to be believed then McTominay could soon be joined in Naples by young Kobbie Mainoo . The 20-year-old has failed to break into Amorim's first-team plans and even made a loan request over the summer .

Mainoo continues to ride the bench and has been surrounded by rumours linking him with a move away from Old Trafford come January. With McTominay and Hojlund currently on loan with Napoli, the Italian side have emerged as a potential suitor .

Manna explained to Sportmediaset: "Mainoo? I've always said we need to be very thoughtful and cautious in the January transfer window .

"We have strong players out who will return sooner or later. We need to make the right assessments, wait for the news in the next few days and then see what happens."
