Manchester United were embroiled in a thrilling last-minute showdown during their Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. United entered the game neck-and-neck with their adversaries, with only goal difference giving either side an edge.
Ruben Amorim's squad have remained undefeated in their previous four matches, while Spurs suffered a 1-0 loss to rivals Chelsea in their most recent game. Bryan Mbeumo, October's Premier League player of the month, put United ahead in the 32nd minute, nodding in a cross from Amad.
Senne Lammens bravely weathered the Tottenham onslaught in the second half, pulling off two saves to preserve United's lead. Brennan Johnson managed to find the back of the net, but the assistant referee's flag quickly quashed any celebrations.
United's defence was finally breached with seven minutes of regular time remaining when Mathys Tel swivelled and dispatched the ball into the back of the net. United were dealt a double injury concern in the second half as both Harry Maguire and Benjamin Sesko were forced off due to injuries, leaving United to finish the match a man down.
Despite their best efforts, they couldn't hold out, with Spurs seizing the lead through Richarlison who converted Wilson Odobert's shot in added time. However, the drama didn't end there - as Matthijs de Ligt headed in from a corner deep into stoppage time to level the score at 2-2.
The draw ensures that the Premier League table remains tantalisingly close, with Spurs sitting in third place and United in seventh - though both teams are deadlocked on points. Looking at United's upcoming five matches, it doesn't seem to be all that daunting on paper. Amorim's squad is expected to defeat both West Ham and Wolves, who are currently languishing at the bottom of the table. The other three matches could be more unpredictable - playing at home against Everton is a less daunting prospect than visiting the club's new Hill Dickinson Stadium.
If Bournemouth and Palace maintain their early-season form, they will likely pose the toughest challenges in the next five fixtures. The race for the Champions League spots remains tight, with Palace, Brighton and Aston Villa all within three points of the top-four positions ahead of the rest of the weekend's matches.
