Former Manchester United flop Antony has been likened to Cristiano Ronaldo by one of his Real Betis teammates after kickstarting his career away from the Premier League .

The Brazilian winger joined the Spanish side on a permanent deal this summer following a standout spell on loan after United decided to cash-in on the former Ajax man for £22million - losing a huge amount on the £88m sum they parted with to sign him. Antony scored just 12 goals in 96 appearances at Old Trafford.

Despite that, he has managed to get his career back on track in Seville, so much to the extent that Real Betis defender Marc Bartra has compared the winger to icons such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar .

Speaking to Mundobetis, Bartra said: “It’s a style of football that suits him very well, that’s why we’re seeing the real Antony again, even an improved Antony. The first day I spoke with him, I already saw his mentality, with that quality and that Brazilian talent.

“I always say he’s a mix between Neymar and Cristiano. He has the same mentality as Cristiano, always striving for more and being very focused on the game.”

Antony has recently spoken out on his time with Man United and accused the Red Devils of a ‘lack of respect'. As quoted by ESPN Brasil , he said: "Look, I'm not the kind of guy who gets involved in controversies, who names people, in fact, I won't mention anyone's name here.

"But I think there was a bit of a lack of respect there, even a bit of rudeness too, with no one giving you a good morning, a good afternoon.

"Not even that. But, anyway, that's in the past, I won't give much importance to these things. Now I'm here, at Betis, I'm living here, that's the most important thing for me."

Asked why he struggled with United, Antony added: "I am a man who accepts my responsibilities. I think off-field matters affected me a lot, in my performance. I know my potential, I know my qualities, I didn't play in a World Cup for nothing, I didn't return to the national team for nothing.

"I also take responsibility for it not working out, for not performing as I wanted. But I always try to see the bright side of things, going through this entire process, this time at United, was necessary to see myself."

Antony, 25, has made 37 appearances for Betis since joining the Spanish side and scored 15 goals - more than he managed in his entire time with United.

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, saving members £336 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
