Chris Waddle has urged Tottenham to avoid a shock transfer move for Manchester United ’s Marcus Rashford , insisting he is too ‘inconsistent’.

Currently on loan at Barcelona from United, Rashford has been linked with Spurs but Waddle says he has ‘not shown enough in the Premier League ’.

The 28-year-old, who also spent time on loan at Aston Villa last term, has played a total of 297 games in the top-flight with 89 goals and 42 assists.

Rashford has shined since joining Barca on loan and the La Liga side have the option to make it permanent in the summer but it’s reported a transfer may be complicated due to his high wages and the Catalan club’s finances.

That could see Spurs attempt a move for Rashford if and when he returns to Old Trafford but Waddle wants his former club to snub a potential deal.

Speaking to WhichBookie , Waddle said: ‘Spurs have failed to replace Harry Kane . They now seem to be too interested in only signing young players like Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall and Wilson Odobert and trying to develop them. It’s about time they started signing ready-made players.

‘They have been linked with Marcus Rashford and although he’s better than what they’ve got, I’m not too sure they really need another left-winger.

‘He’s not shown enough in the Premier League for Manchester United. He had one good season a few years ago, but apart from that he’s been quite inconsistent.

‘I personally wouldn’t be trying to sign him. Spurs should be looking at somebody who is proven in this league.

‘They shouldn’t be put off trying to sign players from other Premier League clubs who have performed well.

‘I know they’ll be doing their scouting far and wide across Europe and elsewhere, but sometimes I think they just need to buy somebody who is ready-made for the league and is already performing week in, week out.’

United allowed Rashford to join Barca on loan after his significant fallout with Ruben Amorim and it seems the player has no future at Old Trafford.

Rashford, who came through United’s academy, was publicly criticised by Amorim over his lack of effort and professionalism.

Since his loan switch to Barca, Rashford has enjoyed an upturn in form, conjuring up six goals and 11 assists across 21 games to date.

Former United defender Wes Brown feels Rashford was destined to improve after leaving the Red Devils.

‘Marcus Rashford was always going to do well, I think he needed the change from Manchester United,’ Brown told BetWright casino .
