Even though Napoli’s Scudetto defence isn’t developing as strongly as they’d hoped, Scott McTominay continues to be Antonio Conte’s main man.
Already this season, the midfield talisman has returned five goals and three assists in 19 Serie A appearances, as well as three goals and an assist in six Champions League outings.
Most recently, he notched a brace against league leaders Inter Milan to almost single-handedly ensure Napoli took something from the 2-2 San Siro affair last Sunday.

His maiden campaign in Italy was no different; McTominay played an integral role in the Naples outfit securing the title , recording 18 goal contributions along the way.
Unsurprisingly, he was named the division’s MVP upon the culmination of 2024/2025, and shrines of his face started appearing along the streets of the city.

Such scintillating form has continued at international level, too; the 67-capped Scot netted an emphatic bicycle kick to open the scoring in Scotland’s eventual 4-2 victory over Denmark in November – a win that secured their first spot at a World Cup tournament since 1988.

In hindsight, Napoli will feel they oversaw one of the greatest steals of the last few years when they added McTominay to their ranks for only £25 million .

The 29-year-old has proven to be worth his weight in gold and is showing no sign of slowing down anytime soon.
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has even suggested McTominay could be in line for a move to one of two European giants.
He said earlier this week: “He [McTominay] is a Bayern Munich or Real Madrid level player. The better he continues to perform, the more big European clubs could come calling in the summer.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if a club of that calibre comes in for him in the summer.”
Di Marzio added: “For Napoli, he is priceless. For me, he is worth about €70m (£60.6m).”
