Manchester United history series ‘to be developed’ with Lionsgate

The Athletic reports that Lionsgate and Manchester United are said to have agreed to develop a series on the club’s history.

Conceived in the mould of The Crown, the show would trace major moments, disappointments and controversies across different eras.

The report also floated a fantasy cast, including Brian Cox or Daniel Day-Lewis to play Sir Alex Ferguson.

It suggested Richard Madden as David Beckham, Stephen Graham or Gary Oldman as Sir Matt Busby, and Harris Dickinson as Cristiano Ronaldo.

These casting ideas were presented playfully as hypothetical choices.
