Cunha had to withdraw from a scheduled appearance to turn on the Christmas lights at an event in Altrincham on Saturday evening, with organisers claiming that he suffered an “accident in training”.
“Unfortunately Matheus Cunha has had an accident in training today and will not be able to attend tonight's Christmas Lights Switch on in Altrincham due to medical reasons,” Visit Altrincham said in a statement on social media.
United are also without Benjamin Sesko , who has been ruled out for a number of weeks with a knee injury.
The Slovenian striker, who had just started to find his feet after a sluggish start to his United career, was withdrawn late on during the dramatic 2-2 draw with Tottenham before the international break.
In his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, United boss Ruben Amorim downplayed the severity of Sesko’s injury but admitted that he did not expect to have him back fit until the start of December.

“He is going to stay a few weeks out. I don't know how long, but it is not that serious and we have to be careful with him,” Amorim said.
“He is going to recover. He is doing the recovery and he is feeling better so we expect in a few weeks to have him back.
“I think it is going to be more or less he will be back at the same time as Amad [Diallo] and [Bryan] Mbeumo leave for AFCON. I don't want to say for sure, but when they are going to the camp, I expect to have Ben back.”
With Sesko sidelined and Cunha ruled out, out-of-favour forward Joshua Zirkzee makes his first start of the season in attack.
Harry Maguire has also been ruled out of United’s first game back after the November international break but Kobbie Mainoo is back in the matchday squad after missing the draw with Tottenham
Lisandro Martinez, meanwhile, is involved for the first time since February after recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
United have included youngster Shea Lacey in their matchday squad to face Everton .
