Marc Casado: United make move for Barcelona’s “Joshua Kimmich”

Manchester United could attempt to strengthen Michael Carrick’s squad during the final stretch of the winter transfer window, despite a dominant 2-0 win over local rivals Manchester City.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano , the United hierarchy and Carrick will have an internal meeting this week to discuss their transfer plans.

United continue to insist that finances are at the interim manager’s disposal to make a signing should a long-term target become available. Now, a report in Spain suggests the Red Devils have entered the race to sign a promising young midfielder.

According to Mundo Deportivo , Manchester United are competing with Atletico Madrid and Wolverhampton Wanderers for the signature of Marc Casado.

The 22-year-old diminutive midfielder, who is known for his defence-splitting passing and intensity out of possession, is highly rated at Camp Nou. It is claimed Hansi Flick has a lot of faith in him. However, the German is blessed with numerous options in the middle of the park.

The Catalan publication claims United have enquired about the Spaniard, who has drawn comparisons to Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich .

The report states: “The Red Devils have already made their move and expressed interest in the midfielder from Sant Pere de Vilamajor.”

Atletico are also keen on signing the Barca gem after parting ways with Conor Gallagher, who joined Tottenham Hotspur last week.

It is suggested that Casado’s initial idea is to prioritise a move abroad if he were to leave his boyhood club.

United and Atletico are also following Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes.

The Brazil international has been a rare positive for bottom-placed Wolves, who seem destined to be relegated to the Championship.

It is believed that United have an advantage over Atletico in the race for Gomes as the Brazilian’s preference is to remain in the Premier League.
