Former West Ham United striker Michail Antonio could be closing in on a move to Championship side Leicester City, just over a year after being involved in a horrific car crash . The accident saw him suffer a serious leg injury.
The forward was with West Ham when the incident occurred, and was helped by the club in his recovery. Despite being out of contract in the summer, he continued to train with the club.
Antonio is now on the lookout for a new club as he looks to get his career back on track. It was reported by the Telegraph on Friday that he was training with Leicester.
It was added that the forward has also been ‘in talks’ with the Championship side over a potential deal, although nothing has been decided yet. Speaking in his press conference ahead of the Foxes’ game against Ipswich, manager Marti Cifuentes confirmed the report.
“He’s a player who has big experience in the Premier League ,” he said. “We’re having a look.
“We as a Club are always working to analyse what we need and how we can improve."
Any potential transfer could be completed before the January window opens, due to Leicester having space in their 25-man EFL squad.
While Antonio has not played a domestic game since his crash, he made three appearances for Jamaica in the Gold Cup back in the summer. He has also featured for West Ham’s U21 team as he continued his recovery.
Speaking earlier this month about his desire to return to club football, he told TNT Sports: “I wasn’t done with football and I didn't want my career to be finished literally in a car crash.

“The very first thing is as soon I could was to speak to the doctor, the first thing I said to him was, ‘Am I going to play again?’, and from him saying to me, ‘Yes’, that was me, no problem, that’s all I need to know. I knew I had more in me and I knew I’ve still got more in me.”
The striker also spoke about his comeback for Jamaica earlier this year, but highlights how he was denied a dream comeback. “I was back on the pitch within six months,” he said.
“I played a couple of games for Jamaica in June. Still to this day burns me.
“The first time I get on the pitch, there was a time where a player at Jamaica, he’s gone through, I’m standing open goal, all he needed to do was roll me the ball.
“I was screaming at him. Let me have this moment, first game back, comeback story, it’s written in the stars. He missed and you know the worst thing about it? He missed it and it goes half a yard behind me. I’m stretching my leg, I’m stretching my leg so much just to get a touch but it goes behind me.”
