Mo Salah was told he'd be a perfect fit at Al-Hilal as rumours ramp up about a possible January transfer to the Saudi Pro League . The forward's Liverpool future has been thrown into doubt following explosive comments he made in the wake of Saturday's 3-3 draw with Leeds.

Unused from the bench in that match, the Egyptian international delivered a scathing post-game interview in which he criticised both the club and manager Arne Slot . Salah claimed his relationship with Slot had broken down completely and accused Liverpool of throwing him "under the bus" by using him as a scapegoat for their recent slump in form.

Salah has long been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia . His contract extension in April appeared to cool that speculation but the prospect of a transfer now seems to have reopened. Al-Hilal - previously reported to have considered a £150million bid for the 33-year-old - are believed to be among the favourites for his signature.

Comments from former Al-Hilal manager Jorge Jesus suggest they would welcome him with open arms. "I would like to have Salah at Al-Hilal, he has a way of playing that fits the team," Jesus said in February this year.

Only weeks earlier, he had hinted that Salah wouldn't be signing for them in January, but could join in the near future. " Mo Salah or other big players will not come this winter. But maybe for next season," he said.

Al-Hilal are in the market for a superstar forward after Neymar's departure earlier this year - and Salah has long been viewed as a perfect fit, particularly given his high profile across the Islamic world .

He would also have a familiar face waiting for him at Al-Hilal in former Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez, who joined the club over the summer. The squad also includes former Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo and ex-Chelsea centre back Kalidou Koulibaly.

However, the club has seen a managerial change since Jesus publicly expressed interest in Salah, with ex-Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi taking the reins in the summer. Jesus has since moved to Al-Nassr and could attempt to lure Salah there instead.

Such a move would create a tantalising scenario for Salah and for fans across the world, potentially allowing him to play not only alongside Cristiano Ronaldo but also former Liverpool team-mate Sadio Mane. Competition for places would be fierce, though, with former Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman and ex-Chelsea forward Joao Felix also in the squad.

Fighting for a starting spot may not appeal to Salah, judging by his recent comments. The two-time PFA Player of the Year described being benched for three games as "not acceptable," insisting that his status at Liverpool should afford him the luxury of not having earn his place in the team every week.

"The respect, I want to get. I don't have to go every day fighting for my position because I earned it," he fumed at the weekend. "I am not bigger than anyone but I earned my position. It's football. It is what it is."

He added: "I'm very, very disappointed to be fair. I have done so much for this club down the years and especially last season. Now I'm sitting on the bench and I don't know why. It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That is how I am feeling. I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame.

"I got a lot of promises in the summer and so far I am on the bench for three games so I can't say they keep the promise. I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager and all of a sudden, we don't have any relationship. I don't know why, but it seems to me, how I see it, that someone doesn't want me in the club."

Salah's incendiary comments have thrown his Liverpool future into serious doubt. While the club hopes a reconciliation with Slot is possible, if that cannot be achieved, a January departure - whether temporary or permanent - looks increasingly likely.

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, saving members £192 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
