But the game turned into a feisty affair in the second half with some meaty challenges flying in.
Chelsea 's Fernandez was at the centre of more than one butting of heads with United stars, with the £107million man seen arguing with Luke Shaw during the game.
Fernandez previously gave pelters to former Blues star Mount when they played against one another last season.
And the pair appeared to reignite their rivalry after Saturday's match.
Mount, 26, was brought on as a 69th-minute sub for Bryan Mbeumo , while Fernandez, 24, completed the game after Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca made three substitutions before the 21st minute.
But after the game, fan footage from the ground picked up an interaction between Mount and Fernandez just after the final whistle.
Mount appeared to bump into the Argentine and say something, with Fernandez then continuing to bump into his rival as they walked towards the centre circle before the Englishman tapped Fernandez on the head.
The interaction continued as players from both sides came over to separate them, with both having their hands over their mouths while they spoke before Fernandez did his own tap on head back on Mount.
It seemed to continue even around the referee, with Malo Gusto having to push Fernandez away as Mount also approached.
Mount and Fernandez came to verbal blows when the teams met in May of this year and in April 2024, both at Stamford Bridge ending in wins for Chelsea.
The win for United sent them into the top half, now just a point behind Chelsea.
MANCHESTER UNITED held their nerve to see off Chelsea despite a late fightback at Old Trafford.
Robert Sanchez was sent off after five minute before goals from Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro gave United a 2-0 half-time lead.
But Casemiro was also sent off to even the playing field and despite Trevoh Chalobah pulling one back - United held firm.
