Official: Barcelona will return to Spotify Camp Nou for Athletic Club clash

It is official. After two and a half years away, FC Barcelona will finally make their return to the Spotify Camp Nou this weekend when they take on Athletic Club in La Liga .

Having moved to Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in 2023, the Blaugrana have had to wait for a long time for the redevelopment project at Camp Nou to reach the stage where they can move back to the venue.

There have been false dawns in the recent past – the Joan Gamper Trophy match, the La Liga game vs Valencia, having been set as dates for a move back, only for the plan to fall through.

Now, though, it is official. Barcelona will return to Camp Nou for Sunday’s league game against Athletic Club, having received the green light from the City Council and La Liga .

“FC Barcelona informs that the match corresponding to matchday 13 of the League, against Athletic Club, scheduled for Saturday, November 22 at 16:15 hours, will finally be played at Spotify Camp Nou,” the club statement read .

“This decision comes after obtaining the first occupancy license corresponding to Phase 1B, which allows increasing the capacity up to 45,401 spectators.

“This authorization includes the entire Lateral area and adds to the license already granted for Phase 1A, which covers the Tribune and South Goal.”

Providing an update about the construction stages, the statement also added: “The Club continues working on Phase 1C to guarantee the resumption of activity in the North Goal, gathering all operational, security, and comfort conditions for members and fans.

As for the plans for the team’s return to Camp Nou for Champions League games, the club specified:

“Regarding the UEFA Champions League, the Club is working jointly with UEFA to be able to play the match against Eintracht Frankfurt at Spotify Camp Nou, since the necessary requirements are met, although confirmation is still awaited.”
