Pep Guardiola rules out future Barcelona presidency stint – ‘Can’t see myself doing that’

Pep Guardiola, still regarded as one of the most influential figures in Barcelona’s modern history, has quietly extinguished one of the most persistent fantasies held by many Blaugrana supporters.

While the Manchester City manager continues to be admired in Catalonia for everything he achieved as both a player and a coach, he has now addressed, and dismissed the possibility of becoming FC Barcelona’s president in the future.

The dream of Guardiola returning to Barcelona in any capacity has floated around the club for years.

Many still wonder whether he might one day sit on the bench again, guiding the team as he once did during the club’s most dominant era.

Yet signs over the years have always pointed towards that being more of a romantic hope than a realistic possibility.

Speaking to RAC1 , Guardiola finally commented on a subject he had never publicly tackled before, which is the idea of leading the club from the presidential box.

He acknowledged his lifelong bond with the institution but made his position crystal clear.

“Becoming Barcelona president? I don’t reject Barça . You’re always a fan of where you started.

“But me with a tie in the presidential box? No, I personally can’t see myself doing that”

He then elaborated on what makes Barcelona such a unique and demanding environment, especially when it comes to leadership roles.

Guardiola highlighted the sheer volume of opinions surrounding the club, something he knows better than most.

“Barça is unique in this regard, because everyone has their say. Only the people on the inside should pay attention to the noise.

“That’s why it’s the biggest club in the world and the most special: because everyone wants to run for president; that’s why we can do this,” he noted.

Furthermore, it must be noted that the Catalan manager recently coached his 1000th match in his professional career and was asked to pick out his favourites.

“I don’t know which one to pick. From my time at Barça , in my first league, there’s the 2-6 at Madrid. There’s also the second Champions League final.

“In Munich, I’d say the game where Atletico Madrid knocked us out in the semifinals was really good. We didn’t make it to the final, but we were the better team.

“And with City I’d go with the home semifinal against Madrid, which was the high point of this decade,” he remembered.
