Arsenal are through to the Carabao Cup fourth round after beating Port Vale on Wednesday night.
Mikel Arteta underlined the importance of this cup competition with his team selection. Despite making nine changes from the 1-1 draw against Manchester City, there were starts for Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze, William Saliba and Gabriel Martinelli.
Eze, who claimed the assist for Martinelli’s equaliser against City, opened his account for Arsenal in the eighth minute as he allowed the ball to roll across his body before side-footing an effort past Joe Gauci.
The only real surprise was the length of time it took the Premier League side to increase their advantage as substitute Leandro Trossard finally put the tie to bed with a crisp finish in the 85th minute.
