Premier League club pay tribute to Josh Travis after teen former academy goalkeeper dies
Nottingham Forest shared a heart-breaking statement on social media following the death of a former player. The Premier League outfit announced the passing of Josh Travis, an ex-academy goalkeeper, on Friday.
An official statement from the Midlands club read: "Everyone at Nottingham Forest is deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of our former academy goalkeeper Josh Travis. Our thoughts are with Josh's family and friends at this extremely difficult time."
Ryan Yates has led the tributes, posting a heart-break emoji under the post on Instagram . The Forest captain, who joined the club at the age of eight, has always been an excellent ambassador for the academy, on and off the pitch.
A couple of years ago, Yates paid a visit to aspiring footballers at the Forest Official Soccer Schools, managed and delivered by the community trust. He and Harry Toffolo showed just how much the community meant to them and the club, taking time out of their day to interact with the children.
They chatted, answered questions, and posed for pictures. The community trust coach heaped great praise on the duo for giving the youngsters an experience they'll never forget.
Speaking to the club website , Tom said: "Having Ryan Yates and Harry Toffolo visit our Soccer Schools was a very a special moment. It's always a pleasure to welcome first-team players to our sessions.
"It's incredible to see the impact player appearances have on children. Their visit not only elevated the children's enthusiasm, but also inspired them.
"Our young players, many of which are Forest fans, idolise these professionals and having them here, sharing their passion for the game and offering valuable insights, was an unforgettable experience.
"It went exceptionally well, and smiles on their faces said it all. This visit reinforces that football isn't just a game - it's a source of inspiration and a community builder."
Last year, Yates showed his true colours once again when he signed a new contract with Forest. In July 2024, the Forest star penned a four-year deal, keeping him at the City Ground until at least June 2028.
In an interview with the club website , Yates said: "Having been here for so long, I really understand what the club means to people who have worked here for many years, the supporters and just Nottingham in general.
"Every time I put the shirt on and wear the armband, I just look to reflect what this club is all about and what this city is all about with my performances on the pitch."
Yates went on to help Forest qualify for the UEFA Europa League , featuring 35 times in the Premier League. All in all, the 28-year-old midfielder has played 255 times for the club, scoring 23 goals and providing 11 assists .
Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, saving members £192 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
