Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso receives support from Barcelona icon – ‘I find it always ludicrous…’
This Wednesday the remaining matches of the sixth round of the 2025–26 UEFA Champions League were played, and the standout fixture of the day was Real Madrid vs Manchester City.
Despite showing competitive improvement amid chaos and injuries, Xabi Alonso’s side ended up losing 1-2 to Pep Guardiola’s team at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The result served to ramp up pressure on the manager, whose job seems to be hanging by a thread at this point, with the performances and results in the next three games likely deciding his future .
Given the situation, Alonso has now received support from former Arsenal and Barcelona superstar, Thierry Henry.
After the match between Real Madrid and Man City, Henry took the opportunity to defend the Spanish coach on CBS Sports.

“I don’t know what he wants to do or not do with the ball, but I find it always ludicrous that a manager can be in trouble after being six months in a job. Personally, I don’t agree with that,” said Henry.
“But you also know that at a club of the level of Real Madrid or Barcelona, or any like that, you can wake up and hear bad news because things can change,” he added.
Continuing, Henry noted: “I don’t think they should question the coach. I think if you have a coach in his position, you should try to see what he can do . But you’ve already heard Guillem [Balague], you’ve heard the president, you’ve heard everyone.
“You’ve heard Gareth Bale say that when you’re there, you need to manage a bit more than coach. So, you know, personally I don’t agree with that, but that’s how things are at Real Madrid .”
Real Madrid take on Deportivo Alaves next in La Liga , before they face Talavera in Copa del Rey and Sevilla again in the league before the mid-season break. If they are unable to turn things around in the upcoming games, things could get worse for Alonso.
