‘Respect the teammates’ – England boss tells Jude Bellingham over unhappy reaction against Albania

England boss Thomas Tuchel has slammed Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham over his unhappy reaction to being substituted against Albania.

The midfielder played for only 25 minutes after coming off the bench in the Three Lions’ 2-0 win over Serbia last week.

Tuchel named the Madrid star in his starting XI on Sunday, but opted to replace him with Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers in the 84th minute.

Bellingham was not happy as he gesticulated with his arms that he did not want to be substituted.

Tuchel was asked about the situation in his post-match press conference, and he advised the 22-year-old to be more respectful to his teammates.

The former Chelsea boss insisted that as a player, Bellingham has to accept whatever the decisions his manager makes.

“I have to review it. I saw he was not happy,” said Tuchel (per The Telegraph ). “To a certain degree if you have players like Jude who are so competitive they will never like it but my word stands. It is about standards, about level, and a commitment and respect to each other. So someone is waiting and we will not change our decision because someone is waving their arms.

“That is the decision and he has to accept the decision. His friend is waiting on the sidelines so you need to accept it, respect it and keep on going.”

He added: “I don’t want to make more out of it, but I stick to my words, ‘behaviour is key’ and respect towards the team-mates who come in. Decisions are made and you have to accept it as a player.”

Bellingham was frustrated at being substituted, but he shouldn’t have shown his disappointment by gesticulating with his arms.

Though he wasn’t at his best behaviour yesterday, the midfielder’s performance on the pitch was excellent.

Harry Kane grabbed all the headlines by scoring the two goals in England’s victory , but Bellingham also produced a top display.

The 22-year-old had 77 touches in the game and completed almost 90 per cent of his passes. He had two shots, created one big chance and won two tackles.

The result against Albania means England have recorded an outstanding eight wins from eight World Cup qualifying matches, scoring 22 goals and conceding none.

Tuchel’s men had sealed their World Cup ticket last month after beating Latvia, thus becoming the first European nation to qualify for the summer tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
