Ricardo La Volpe criticizes Javier Aguirre for his statements and praises Mauricio Pochettino

T he Mexican national team and the USMNT are preparing for the 2026 World Cup , where they will be hosts along with Canada. What is striking is the contrast between the two teams, as Javier Aguirre's side are struggling to win, while Mauricio Pochettino's side are unbeaten in their last few matches.

Talking about Mexico and the United States is to talk about one of the strongest rivalries in Concacaf and curiously everything changed since their clash in the Gold Cup Final , when El Tri defeated the USMNT, from that moment they collapsed and the Americans seem to have been reborn.

Fans have shown annoyance at the performance of the Mexican national team, but more so at Javier Aguirre's statements such as "there is progress", "we are testing" or that "the players lack the ability to perform in the Tri" so La Volpe declared exclusively with Marca his point of view on what was said by Aguirre:

In a national team you call up players and that means that if you call them up, it's because you're seeing a player who performs well, who works well and who fits into your system

He also questioned the lack of variants presented by Aguirre, who has not found the formula to make the team work ahead of the World Cup:

I don't understand why Aguirre doesn't make a change, because he continues to play with two men on the outside with the wrong foot most of the time so that the full-back can pass, and what is missing are the midfielders who get to the end line

Ricardo La Volpe praises Mauricio Pochettino's USMNT and their good form

The United States national team is enjoying a great moment in its preparation for the 2026 World Cup with five games without defeat , but not only that, it has done so without some of its stars such as Pulisic and Tyler Adams. La Volpe gave his opinion on the USMNT:

Pochettino gives you results and another thing, he changed his system, be careful, he has players who know how to show and the results always give you confidence and that's what's important
