Ruben Amorim admits Manchester United are ‘underachieving’ after criticism from former players
Ruben Amorim has admitted Manchester United are ‘underachieving’ after criticism from former players.
The Red Devils endured a poor start to the season, but bounced back to register three consecutive Premier League wins in October.
However, they have become inconsistent again with just two wins from their previous six matches.
Former United legend Paul Scholes claimed on his podcast last week that Amorim is not the right man for his old team because his system doesn’t fit the United tradition of playing with wingers.
Asked if he had an issue with ex-players criticising him, Amorim said: “I think it’s normal.
“It’s a fact that me as a manager of Manchester United , I think we are underachieving. We should have more points, especially this season. So, I take that naturally.
“Sometimes they don’t have all the information and see Manchester United with the standards they lived here, always winning. It’s hard for them to see their club in this situation.”
United will enter Monday’s home game with Bournemouth on the back of a 4-1 triumph over Wolverhampton Wanderers .
The Manchester titans endured a nervy first-half, as Jean-Ricner Bellegarde canceled out the advantage of Bruno Fernandes’ early goal.
But they dominated proceedings after the break in the Molineux Stadium encounter, with Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount both scoring before Bruno’s late second.
Amorim’s men will now look to claim back-to-back wins this week, and they could not have asked for better opponents than Bournemouth.
The Cherries are massively struggling for form at the moment, as they are winless in their previous six top-flight matches, collecting just two points from 18 on offer.
The dismal run means they have slid into the bottom half of the league standings .
The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is set to start soon , with December 15 the mandatory release date for clubs to send their players to the tournament.
But Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui have not been ruled out of Monday’s game just yet.
