Ruben Amorim admits he knows Evanilson ‘quite well’ after the striker was rumoured to be a transfer target for Manchester United in July.

Evanilson will face United on Monday night as AFC Bournemouth lock horns with Amorim’s side at Old Trafford in a Premier League clash.

It is understood United wanted to sign Evanilson back in 2022, two years before he joined Bournemouth from Porto for a £40.2m club-record fee.

In the most recent summer transfer window, Evanilson was once again linked to the Red Devils but ended up staying with the south coast club.

United head coach Amorim knows Evanilson from his days managing Sporting CP in the Portuguese league when they used to take on Porto.

‘I know Evanilson quite well,’ Amorim told Sky Sports ahead of the match between United and Bournemouth .

‘He’s so smart and the technical ability of Evanilson is really good. It’s going to be a fun game but a really tough game.’

Evanilson conjured up 10 Premier League goals for Bournemouth last season across 31 games as the Cherries finished ninth in the top-flight.

The Brazilian has only scored one goal so far this term, though, in Bournemouth’s 1-0 win at Tottenham in August.

Evanilson was guilty of a shocking miss in Bournemouth’s last match, a 0-0 draw with Chelsea , somehow failing to score from a yard out.

Evanilson shined at his former club Porto, registering 60 goals and 21 assists in 154 appearances.

During his time at Porto, the Portuguese side won the Primeira Liga title, three Taça de Portugal trophies, the Taça da Liga and the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira.

The 26-year-old, capped twice by Brazil, was the Taça de Portugal top scorer in the 2021-22 and 2023-24 campaigns.

Meanwhile, Amorim has also praised Evanilson’s Bournemouth teammate Antoine Semenyo.

United are among the clubs interested in a deal for the Bournemouth winger when the January transfer window opens next month.
