Ruben Amorim makes massive change to Man Utd team for must-win Sunderland clash
Ruben Amorim has made a change in goal for Manchester United's huge home game with Sunderland , bringing in summer signing Senne Lammens for Altay Bayindir.
United paid £18.2million to bring Lammens in from Royal Antwerp on the final day of the summer transfer window but the young Belgian keeper has yet to make an appearance for the Red Devils, with Bayindir featuring in all six of Manchester United's Premier League games so far this season.
Neither Bayindir or last season's No 1, Andre Onana, have convinced in goal during Amorim's tenure, sparking calls for Lammens to be thrust straight into the team. And while Amorim initially resisted, Lammens gets the nod for a game which could have major ramifications for United's Portuguese head coach, who has seen the scrutiny grow on him in recent weeks.
United have made a poor start to the new Premier League campaign, winning just two of their six games. Sunderland is viewed as a must-win fixture for the Red Devils, with some reports suggesting that Amorim could be sacked if United head into the international break off the back of another disappointing result.
Amorim has won just 18 of the 49 matches he has overseen since arriving at Old Trafford last November and he even conceded himself that results need to improve if he is to remain in charge during his pre-match press conference on Friday. “Nobody here is naive,” the United boss said when asked about previous results.
“We understand that we need results to continue the project. We will reach a point that is impossible for everyone because this is a very big club with a lot of sponsors, with two owners. So it’s hard – the balance is really hard.”
