Ruben Amorim reveals Man Utd fear after bruising Everton loss: 'We are not there'

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim admits he is "afraid" his side could regress back to the levels of last season following defeat to Everton .
The Red Devils fell to a 1-0 loss at home to the 10-man Toffees to slip to three games without a win. It appeared United had turned a corner under Amorim, but now the 13-time champions find themselves in 10th position in the Premier League , albeit five places above where they finished last season. Amorim's side could have moved into the Champions League places with three points.
United could not take advantage of Everton's implosion as Idrissa Gueye was sent off for striking team-mate Michael Keane . And defeat has left Amorim with some concern.
The Portuguese coach does not believe his side are close to competing at the top of the Premier League. Amorim's fear is that the club will fall into a period of momentum that it suffered last season.
"We are not there, not even near the point that we should be to fight for the best positions in the league," said Amorim. "These five weeks everyone is praising our evolution.
"I'm always saying the same things. We are not even near what the moment we're supposed to be in this club. I feel afraid of returning to this feeling of last season. That is my biggest concern."
United boss Amorim wants to see his team fight for results in the manner that Everton did. The 40-year-old does not believe the conflict between Keane and Gueye is necessarily a negative thing.
Amorim did not see the required fight from his squad on Monday night but said his team would offer more in the future.
"Fighting is not a bad thing," said Amorim. "Fighting doesn't mean that they don't like each other. Fighting is that you lose the ball, I will fight you because we will suffer a goal. That was my feeling when I watched.
"I hope my players, when they lose the ball, they fight each other. That is a good feeling, not a bad feeling.
"Again, my players show in many games that we can do it. Today, we didn't. We are going to be better in the future. Today, we are really frustrated.
"We have training tomorrow and we are going to prepare for the next one."
