Ruben Amorim’s advice to Benjamin Sesko after difficult Manchester United start

Benjamin Sesko has had a difficult start to life at Manchester United after joining the club in a £73.7 million move in the summer.

The 22-year-old has featured 11 times for the Red Devils, but has found the back of the net on just two occasions.

That has brought inevitable pressure on the striker’s shoulders, with former United legend Gary Neville claiming he was ‘miles off it’ in last weekend’s 2-2 draw at Nottingham Forest .

Manager Ruben Amorim says Sesko should learn to accept criticism so that it becomes like a ‘normal Monday’.

Amorim said (per The Guardian ): “It’s not personal – that’s what I try to explain to the players. It’s an opinion that [could] change in a few weeks. What is true today, in three weeks could be different. My advice to Ben is you are going to get used to [hearing such opinions] and then it’s going to be natural – be like your Monday here. So we are going to help and protect Ben because he works so hard and wants to succeed.”

United’s three-game winning run came to an end at Forest last Saturday, but that is unlikely to dampen spirits of the Old Trafford fans.

The Red Devils have seen huge improvement since the 3-1 loss at Brentford.

They stunned Liverpool by beating them 2-1 at Anfield, and also claimed comfortable victories against Sunderland and Brighton & Hove Albion.

United will be disappointed to drop points against Forest , but it was positive to see Amorim’s men fighting back to salvage a draw following a second-half collapse.

The Manchester titans now travel to North London to face Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

Spurs crushed Copenhagen 4-0 in midweek, but their displays under Thomas Frank don’t inspire a lot of confidence.

Amorim’s side have a great opportunity to come away with maximum points from the coming fixture.
