Sir Alex Ferguson warns United 'could go' 10 more years without league title
Sir Alex Ferguson has warned Manchester United could face another decade without a league title, comparing their slump to Liverpool’s 30-year wait and urging better recruitment.
“I remember my own time at Manchester United when Liverpool were at the height of their powers. They were a fantastic club that had won the European Cup four times, then it took them 30 years to win the league again. We are in the same situation now. It could take 10 years, even 11, because of that cycle. We have to think carefully and make sure recruitment is better than it has been,” he told Press Box.
United are sixth in the Premier League , seven points off the top three, and last won the title in 2013.
The former Old Trafford manager, who spent 27 years in charge, also praised Ruben Amorim’s good personality.
Amorim responded on Friday afternoon. “He understands football better than me, especially English football,” said the Portuguese. “I do not think we will take that long to win the league, and I do not know which coach will be there then. But I truly believe we can fight for the title in the years ahead.”
