Manchester United’s Phallon Tullis-Joyce will spend a period on the sidelines after suffering a ‘fractured eye socket’.

The shot-stopper’s injury was confirmed by The Athletic in the aftermath of United’s dismal derby defeat, which saw them slump to a 3-0 loss at the hands of league leaders Manchester City.

Tullis-Joyce was absent for the clash on Sunday afternoon, as well as the Reds’ Champions League encounter against Paris Saint-Germain four days prior, with Safia Middleton-Patel deputising between the sticks for Marc Skinner.

Thankfully for Skinner, that night ended considerably better for his side, as they claimed a 2-1 victory at Old Trafford. The outing also marked the return of former ‘keeper Mary Earps, who received a mixed reception when back at her former stomping ground.

In regard to how long United can expect to be without Tullis-Joyce , Charlotte Harpur’s report adds that a fractured eye socket can take ‘some weeks’ to recover from.

The team are due to travel to Germany to take on Wolfsburg on Wednesday before club action hits pause for another international break, meaning the USWNT international can be granted some much-needed rehabilitation time without feeling like she’s missing out.

There is, however, a chance that Skinner opts for Tullis-Joyce to feature anyway, in the event she’s deemed fully fit for the high-stakes midweek European tie.

“She should be fine, it’s just trying to make sure she doesn’t get another knock in that area,” said the manager of his No.1 on Sunday afternoon.
