Thomas Frank gives Dominic Solanke update amid forward's injury lay-off - as Tottenham boss promises activity in January transfer window

Thomas Frank issued a positive update on the return of Dominic Solanke from injury as he promised Tottenham will be active in the January transfer market.

Solanke, who has not played since August and had ankle surgery on October 1, posted a photograph on social media of him playing with hourglass emojis.

Frank confirmed his £65million England centre forward is training albeit not with the rest of the team and is kicking a ball.

'I guess it's good news, his injury was picked up in July, so it's dragged on for a while,' said the Spurs boss. 'Sometimes it's not so easy and straight forward, maybe it's a minor setback, maybe it's taken a little bit slower.

'Without being too boring and talking about details, the thing is it's more positive now and I'm looking forward to him on the training pitch and involved in the squad.'

Solanke scored 16 goals last season. In his absence, Richarlison has scored seven, including four in the last seven games. Randal Kolo Muani and Mathys Tel have also led the line.

'I would love to have Dom out there,' said Frank. 'To have a quality player like him in the squad, that would just help even more for competition, for rotation, for everything in the team. The good thing is I'm not in doubt he'll be out there.'

Spurs, who are 11th in the Premier League and go to Nottingham Forest on Sunday, want to boost their squad in January with their two sporting directors Fabio Paratici and Johan Lange plotting since the summer window closed.

'More or less after the window shut in September we had the first formal meeting,' said Frank. 'And it is an ongoing process that, in that time, I have got to know more of the squad and the players.

'One thing is the daily interaction with the players. Also I've seen a lot of games and watched them back and you see good and bad habits from the players - some you can affect, others you think will be tricky - and how the relationships are. That knowledge gets us closer to knowing what we want.'

Spurs are among those interested in Antoine Semenyo, available from Bournemouth for £65m before January 10.

'We will definitely be in the market, no doubt about that,' said Frank. 'We want them as early as possible, like every other team, and let's see if we can have them before the 31st of January.'
