Transfer news LIVE: Man Utd confident on £100m star, Liverpool facing two exits, Aston Villa return swoop

The January transfer window is in full swing and whilst Manchester United won't be making any signings this month, they continue to eye up some serious summer deals.

The club have made changes in the dugout, but will stick with their current squad ahead of targeting a new midfielder or two in the summer. Carlos Baleba, valued at around £100million by Brighton, is someone they are confident of landing.

The Premier League's top two, Manchester City and Arsenal , could be relatively quiet for the rest of the month with Pep Guardiola spending big to land Antoine Semenyo, who has made an instant impact.

Aston Villa sit in third and Unai Emery is looking to bring Tammy Abraham back to the club in an effort to give his frontline more quality for the remainder of the season. Elsewhere Liverpool's backline options continue to be a discussion point with two men potentially on their way out.

Owls eye double swoop

Crisis club Sheffield Wednesday could add two loan players before tomorrow's clash against Portsmouth at Hillsborough.

The Owls remain in administration and sit on -7 points having been deducted a total of 18 following the mess left by hapless former owner Dejphon Chansiri.

They are operating against transfer constraints implemented by the EFL but are set to land some help after fielding just one senior pro in their starting XI against Brentford in the FA Cup last weekend.

Manchester City youngster Jaden Heskey, son of former Liverpool and England striker Emile, is set to join the beleaguered South Yorkshire club.

City are keen for the 20-year-old midfielder to gain first-team experience and will continue to pay his wages among other associated fees during his stay in the Steel City.

Goalkeper Murphy Cooper is also set to arrive on loan for the rest of the campaign from QPR. He spent the first half of the season with Barnsley but returned to Loftus Road following the Tykes' FA Cup defeat at Anfield on Monday night.

Wednesday need a goalkeeper after Pierce Charles suffered a shoulder injury in the Brentford defeat, keeping him out for between six and eight weeks.

Manchester United left-back Harry Amass could yet also return to Hillsborough having enjoyed a fruitful loan spell during the first half of the campaign.

But other Championship clubs including Stoke City are keen on his signature while he may also pen fresh terms at Old Trafford.

Man Utd confident on £100m star

Man United are reportedly growing more and more confident that they will be able to prise Carlos Baleba away from Brighton in the summer transfer window.

United have been long-term admirers of Baleba and believe their chances are increasing.

He was one of their primary targets before the 2025/26 season began. Brighton held firm in the summer, quoting a price north of £100m.
