Video: Alejandro Garnacho gives blunt response on if he regrets his Man United exit

Chelsea star Alejandro Garnacho made his feelings perfectly clear when questioned about whether he regrets how his Manchester United exit occurred.

Having joined United from Atlético Madrid in 2020, Garnacho wasted no time establishing himself as one of the brightest talents to emerge from the club’s famed academy.

He earned praise for his explosive pace and flair-filled style of play. The Argentine finally made his senior United debut in April 2022 during a 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

Garnacho would go on to establish himself as a key first-team player under Erik ten Hag. Over three full seasons, he helped the Red Devils win the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, scoring in the final for the latter against Manchester City at Wembley.

However, his United career ended in controversial circumstances amid tensions with current boss Ruben Amorim.

Angered by Amorim’s decision to name him on the bench for last season’s Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, Garnacho publicly slammed the manager. Amorim responded by telling the forward to look for a new club as his services were no longer needed at Old Trafford.

Garnacho was part of the infamous ‘bomb squad’ before a £40million move to Chelsea got over the line. He has turned out 14 times for the Blues across all competitions, contributing two goals and as many assists.

He spoke to the media ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League meeting with Atalanta and was asked about how he left United.

Asked if he had any regrets how it ended, he bluntly replied, “No.”

Pushed on if he was sad about the separation, he answered again, “No.”

He added , “I came here to play my football and show people the player I am.”

“Sometimes in life, you have to change things to take a step forward or to improve as a player. I think it was the right moment and the right club. So it was an easy decision.”

“I wanted to stay in the Premier League because I think it’s the best league in the world. I spoke with the manager (Enzo Maresca) before I came here and he explained to me the project, he convinced me and I’m really happy to be here.”

“He explained to me everything and now working together, we are doing well. We are going to improve with time, it’s just three months together, and he trusts me and that is the most important thing for confidence, and I want to improve.”

Garnacho made 144 appearances for United.
