Wayne Rooney says Liverpool boss should drop Mohamed Salah after Nottingham Forest humiliation

Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool form has been a big talking point this season.

The Egyptian has scored just four goals in 12 Premier League appearances.

Former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has made a bold claim about Salah in his latest podcast episode , saying the 33-year-old should be dropped by manager Arne Slot.

“If I was Slot, I’d try and make a big decision just so it has an impact on the rest of the team.

“Salah is not helping them defensively.

“If you’re one of the players who they’ve signed and you’re on the bench and you’ve seen him not running – and again he’s a club legend and everything he’s done for the club – but if you’re on the bench, then what message does that send to you?”

Liverpool slumped to another disappointing defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, with the club now in the midst of a full-blown crisis.

There were many underwhelming displays from the Reds, especially Alexander Isak who just had 14 touches during his 68 minutes on the pitch.

Salah had a slightly better game than others, but he still failed to contribute a goal or an assist.

The Egypt international had 90 touches in the match and made three key passes. But he lost possession of the ball on 37 occasions and won just four of his 16 ground duels.

Salah has been a top performer for Liverpool over the years, scoring 250 goals and creating 116 assists in 418 appearances across all competitions.

He became the first player in Premier League history to finish a season with the most goals and assists last term, when he won the player of the season award.

But he hasn’t been his usual self this term, with defenders finding it far too easy to defend against him.

If things continue like this, Slot may opt to drop the experienced forward.
