Wembley to host latest blockbuster between England and Spain

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official media release from The Football Association this morning.

The European champions will play host to the World champions at the national stadium on Tuesday 14 April 2026. A kick-off time will be agreed in the coming days.

England were paired with Spain in the recent draw for the UEFA qualifying region. The two nations will also face Ukraine and Iceland in the usual group format. The group winners will secure automatic qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027 while the remaining nations will enter the lottery of a play-off system. The higher-ranked sides will be given more favourable play-off opponents.

The Lionesses’ reunion with Spain is arguably the most eye-catching match-up in UEFA qualifying. England defeated Spain on penalties in the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 final less than four months ago.

Speaking after England’s home meeting with Spain was set for Wembley Stadium, head coach Sarina Wiegman said “Playing at Wembley always brings a special kind of energy, and we all feel it when we step on the pitch. The history and memories made there along with our incredible fans creates a unique atmosphere.

“Spain are of course one of the best teams in the world and to play them at Wembley again is exciting. We know from the EURO final just how tough they are to play against, and there’s a great deal of mutual respect between the two teams. It’s a challenging group but our objective is to qualify for the World Cup, that is what we are fully-focused on from now. We hope our fans can help us take one step closer to Brazil at Wembley in April.”

My England Football members will have exclusive priority access to purchase tickets for the Spain fixture between 20-25 November 2025. Any remaining tickets will go on general sale on 26 November 2025.

The dates for all of England’s qualifying fixtures have now been set and can be seen below.
