Wrexham are reportedly poised to rekindle their pursuit of West Ham midfielder Andy Irving despite previously being rebuffed. The Premier League star was targeted by the Red Dragons, backed by Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac , during the latter stages of the summer transfer window.
A move for the £3.5million-rated talent collapsed after the 25-year-old opted to stay and battle for his spot in the Hammers' team.
Explaining his decision back in September, he said: "There was a lot of speculation and media [during the summer], but ultimately for me, I'm in a good place here at West Ham. I really enjoy it here, so I was keen to stay and continue giving my best for the club.
"I believe that I'll have another progressive year here, and I'll benefit a lot from it. I really enjoy the work that we put in here, and I really enjoy the role that I have within the squad on and off the pitch.",
However, despite Irving clocking up six top flight outings this season, reports suggest he's expected to depart the club come January after being considered expendable at the London Stadium. According to the Claret and Hugh website, Wrexham are now plotting a fresh swoop for the Scotland international.
Scottish Premiership giants Celtic and Rangers are also understood to have previously shown interest in securing his services. An exit from the Hammers during the upcoming window is believed to be probable for Irving as boss Nuno Espirito Santo seeks to reshape his squad.
Irving was snapped up by former West Ham manager David Moyes from Austria Klagenfurt on the final day of the transfer window in September 2023. He was initially loaned back to the Austrian Bundesliga side, before making 10 Premier League appearances last season.

Irving was given back-to-back starts by Santo in October, shortly after the Portuguese boss took over from Graham Potter . Both matches against Brentford and Leeds ended in defeat for the Hammers and he has been warming the bench since then.
Wrexham are currently sitting 10th in the Championship table, just two points shy of the play-offs, despite a rocky start to the season. Phil Parkinson 's team will be aiming to stretch their seven-match unbeaten league streak on Saturday as they welcome Blackburn .
Wrexham's chief executive, Michael Williamson, has confirmed that Parkinson will have funds available in January. However, the manager insists he won't be bringing in too many new faces after signing 13 new players during the summer following the club's promotion from League One .
Speaking to BBC Sport Wales , Parkinson said: "We'll monitor the injury situation, but we made a lot of changes in the summer and I feel we're only just getting a settled feel in the building.
"We won't be making too many changes in the January window. We want to continue to work with the players we've got. When you bring in 13 players, that's a big turnaround."
