Micky van de Ven is attracting admiring glances from Liverpool , who now look likely to enter the transfer market for defensive reinforcements in the summer after missing out on Marc Guehi .

The Reds were close to bagging Guehi, 25, in a £35million deal back in the summer, only for Crystal Palace to pull the plug on the move in the final hours of deadline day. The Premier League champions have looked fragile defensively this season and were always expected to rekindle their interest in Guehi.

Those plans were scuppered by City, though, who snapped up Guehi last week . And it has now emerged that Liverpool are 'developing a keen interest' in Van de Ven ahead of the summer in news that will come as a blow to Tottenham .

The Mail claim Liverpool are admirers of the Netherlands international, who has not committed to a new contract despite attempts from Spurs to tie him down.

Van de Ven is contracted until 2029 but his stance on penning fresh terms, coupled with Liverpool's need for a quality central defender, could test Tottenham's resolve in the summer, the report adds.

The talented 24-year-old has stood out since joining Spurs from Wolfsburg back in the summer of 2023. He has once again been one of their most consistent performers in a difficult 2025-26 campaign under Thomas Frank , scoring three times in 21 Premier League appearances.

After an ACL injury ended the season of summer signing Giovanni Leoni prematurely, speculation over a fresh attempt to land Guehi in January had gathered pace before City muscled in ahead of others to strike a bargain deal for the England star.

The Frenchman, 26, is now inside the final six months of his contract and can speak with overseas clubs. He had been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid during the first half of the seasonbut has also struggled for form this term, with transfer talk going cold more recently.
