‘Afraid’ Amorim says his Man Utd team is ‘not even near fighting for the best positions’

A brutally honest Ruben Amorim admitted his Man Utd side are “not even near” where they should be after falling to a dismal defeat at home to ten-man Everton .

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored the only goal of the game after Idrissa Gueye had been sent off for slapping his own team-mate Michael Keane.

“I think we deserved to lose,” Amorim reflected. “We didn’t play well. We didn’t play with the right intensity and that’s it.

“We talked about this a lot of times. I know which point we are at, at the moment. I have that feeling during this run.

“We are not there. Not even near the point that we should be to fight for the best positions in the league. We have a lot to do and we need to be perfect to win games. We were not perfect today.

“When we see the results of the weekend, we should get on the pitch with a different excitement, that is my feeling.

“Old Trafford was there to say we’re ready to give you a big step up and I felt that we were not ready.

“Again, this five weeks everyone is praising our evolution. I’m always saying the same things. We are not even near where we’re supposed to be at this club.

“I feel afraid of returning to the feeling of last season. That is my biggest concern.

“We need to work together. The players are trying but we need to be better.”
