Transfer expert Maurizio Micheli has started work at Arsenal, ahead of the January transfer window . The recruitment specialist has been appointed to a senior role in the Gunners' talent acquisition hierarchy, per reports .
Micheli arrives from Serie A giants Napoli to take up a position working under sporting director Andrea Berta, who was appointed earlier this year. The Italian has already been in action and was present for Arsenal's win over Brentford at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.
The north London side have been keen to add to their ranks following assistant sporting director Jason Ayto's exit in May . Ayto had worked as the interim sporting director before Berta was handed the position.
Micheli joins Arsenal boasting a stellar reputation. The Italian made his name in spells with Hellas Verona, Bologna, Brescia and Napoli, where he was their head of scouting.
His time at Napoli saw players such as Kim Min-jae and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia plucked from relative obscurity. Micheli also spotted Marek Hamsik before he moved to Brescia.
“I am in touch with Maurizio Micheli, Napoli’s chief scout. I owe him a lot,” Hamsik told Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport in 2022.
“He is the one who brought me to Italy [at Brescia] for the first time.”
Arsenal are attempting to work proactively in their transfer department and have already announced two players. Though neither will join until 2027.
