Bruno Fernandes says he will stay at Manchester United on one condition
Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has sensationally claimed that he would be open to moves to Spain, Italy and Portugal.
The Portuguese insisted his priority is to remain at United but only if they make him feel wanted.
This comes after he said earlier this week that he was hurt to realise the club wanted to sell him when Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal made a huge offer last summer.
But he rejected the move to Saudi because he genuinely loves the Manchester club.
Fernandes is contracted with United until 2027, but his remarks on Wednesday have thrown his continuance with the club into serious doubt.
In an interview with Portuguese broadcaster Canal 11 , he said: “I want to stay at Manchester United as long as I feel desired.”
The attacking midfielder then added: “I would like to experience the Spanish league and fight for big titles in Italy. I have many connections to Italy. My daughter was born there.
“I’ve already thought about returning to Portugal. The first option would be Sporting. To be happy, like it was with Sporting but I don’t want to ruin the image that was left. I don’t want to drag myself there, I want to add to it.
“And even try district football, at an advanced age. You play in the district for love, you feel different. I have friends in the district.”
Fernandes has been the best signing of the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, who has been consistently performing over the years.
In 307 appearances across all competitions, he has scored 103 goals and created 93 assists, helping his side win a Carabao Cup and an FA Cup.
At 31, his levels have not dropped and he has been an integral part of Ruben Amorim’s team this season.
He has started all 16 Premier League matches this term, bagging five goals and seven assists in the process.
However, there are doubts about his future in Manchester after his recent comments.
The club’s hierarchy would be displeased with his remarks and they may look to sell him in the summer.
Given his quality and experience at the top level, there will likely be plenty of interest in securing his signature.
