Burnley star charged by FA after allegedly SPITTING at Leeds fans

Hannibal Mejbri has been charged by the Football Association with misconduct after appearing to spit at Leeds United fans during last month's Premier League encounter.

As exclusively revealed by Daily Mail Sport last month , a Leeds fan made the allegation following Burnley 's 2-0 home win at Turf Moor.

And after an investigation, the FA have decided to charge the Burnley midfielder for the misdemeanour.

In a short statement on Tuesday afternoon, the FA announced: 'Burnley's Hannibal Mejbri has been charged with misconduct following their Premier League fixture against Leeds United on Saturday 18 October.

'It's alleged that the player acted in breach of the Laws of the Game and/or in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or indecent behaviour by spitting at or in the direction of Leeds United supporters around the 67th minute.

'Hannibal Mejbri has until Friday 28 November to provide a response.'

Mejbri, who came through the ranks at Manchester United, came on after 83 minutes and was booked in added time.

Last season, the 22-year-old appeared to taunt Leeds supporters when he was substituted during Burnley's 1-0 Championship win at Elland Road, raising his arms aloft as he made his way behind the goal and to the dugouts.

The FA charge comes weeks after Lancashire Police confirmed that they were investigating themselves.

In their own statement they said: 'Lancashire Police are aware of an alleged incident involving a Burnley player during the second half of the Premier League game between Burnley and Leeds United at Turf Moor.

'We are currently working with Burnley Football Club to establish the facts.'
