De Ligt’s last-gasp header earns United a draw at Spurs

Manchester United salvaged a 2-2 draw at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium thanks to Matthijs de Ligt ’s stoppage-time header in a thrilling Premier League encounter.

The game swung wildly in the final 10 minutes after Bryan Mbeumo had given United the lead in the first half with a brilliant header from Amad Diallo ’s cross.

Spurs looked set for a late revival when Mathys Tel , introduced as a substitute, levelled with a superb strike, and Richarlison then appeared to snatch victory for the hosts in stoppage time. But De Ligt rose highest from a corner to nod in the equaliser, ensuring the spoils were shared.

United started strongly, with Mbeumo causing Spurs plenty of early problems from his left-sided role. A golden chance fell to him after a neat pass from Bruno Fernandes , but he could not find a teammate in the box.

Mbeumo eventually broke the deadlock shortly after the half-hour mark, firing a header into the top corner to put United ahead.

After the break, Spurs gradually improved, with Cristian Romero forcing a fine save from Senne Lammens , followed by a clever acrobatic effort from João Palhinha that the Belgian keeper tipped away. Brennan Johnson also had a goal disallowed for offside, frustrating the home supporters further.

The final 10 minutes were a rollercoaster. Tottenham finally hit the equaliser through Tel, only for Richarlison to seemingly snatch all three points moments later. United’s resilience shone through as De Ligt’s header denied Spurs a late win and extended Manchester United’s unbeaten run to five matches.

The draw leaves Spurs third in the table, level on points with United but ahead on goal difference.
