Manchester United are one of the clubs keeping tabs on the situation of Everton midfielder James Garner ahead of the summer transfer window, according to talkSPORT . The Everton star played a starring role in helping the Toffees to victory against Man United at Old Trafford last night. Garner is out of contract at the end of the season and the Red Devils would love to have their academy graduate back for free. However, Everton are stepping up contract talks with the 24-year-old as manager David Moyes does not want to lose such a key player anytime soon.

Garner joined the Toffees from Man United in 2022, signing a four-year deal. He has since established himself as a key player for Everton having made just seven senior appearances for the Red Devils, spending time on loan in the Championship. The Englishman has played almost 100 games for the Merseyside club and England manager Thomas Tuchel appears to be monitoring him after they were both spotted having a conversation last night.

Garner featured in defensive midfield last night and was brilliant after his partner Idrissa Gueye was sent off 13 minutes into the game. The Man United academy graduate has also featured at right-back and left-back this season, and it appears manager Ruben Amorim is a fan of his style of play. The Red Devils have been desperate to bolster their options in midfield for a while and have been linked with interest in the likes of Brighton & Hove Albion star Carlos Baleba, Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton and his Nottingham Forest counterpart Elliot Anderson.

Garner could be available for free in the summer, which makes him an attractive option for his old club, but they are not the only ones interested in him, with Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest also monitoring his situation.
