From Spain: Marcus Rashford’s permanent Barcelona move in jeopardy unless he accepts major board request

Marcus Rashford will have to significantly reduce his £300,000-a-week wages if he is to secure a long-term contract with Barcelona.

Indeed, the Catalan giants, renowned for their precarious financial situation over the last decade, are simply unwilling to add such a hefty fee to the wage bill, according to Spanish outlet Diario Sport .

That’s not to say they aren’t willing to keep him on board, though.

As things stand, Barcelona have every intention of signing Rashford permanently upon the culmination of his loan spell at the end of the season.

They technically don’t have to, given his terms include a buy option as opposed to an obligation, but his stellar form since making the switch has convinced them he’d be a beneficial addition – especially considering they’d only have to pay Manchester United £26 million to do so.

In the 16 matches the 28-year-old has played thus far, he has returned a hugely impressive six goals and nine assists.

Six goal contributions have come in the Champions League alone, including braces against both Newcastle United and Olympiacos.

In the La Liga, however, Rashford is playing more of the creator, notching just two goals but a whopping seven assists in 12 outings.

Such form will undoubtedly catch the eyes of Ruben Amorim and the key decision-makers over at Old Trafford, although it’s pretty much safe to say Rashford’s Red Devils career is approaching its definitive end .

It’s thought he has already played his final game for his boyhood club, meaning when he is officially sold next summer, he’ll bid farewell with 426 appearances to his name.

In that time, the Carrington graduate racked up 138 goals and 78 assists.
