The final Premier League match before Christmas Day sees Fulham host Nottingham Forest at Craven Cottage on Monday night. Just two points separate these bottom-half rivals in the table, and a win for Sean Dyche’s side would see them leapfrog Marco Silva’s men in the standings.

Fulham, whose trophy cabinet remains sparse aside from lower-league titles and the Intertoto Cup, suffered another disappointment in their pursuit of major silverware. Their hopes were dashed in a dramatic 2-1 defeat to EFL Cup holders Newcastle United in Wednesday’s quarter-finals, with Lewis Miley’s stoppage-time header ending their Wembley dreams. While the loss was gut-wrenching, some fans may see it as a blessing in disguise, allowing the Cottagers to focus on avoiding relegation.

Inconsistency has plagued Fulham throughout the season, partly due to a quiet transfer window. As a result, they sit 15th in the table, though they maintain a seven-point buffer above the drop zone. Inspired by Harry Wilson, Fulham snapped a two-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory over Burnley in gameweek 16. Their wild 5-4 defeat to Manchester City was anything but typical, and Silva’s side has shown a knack for entertaining matches.

Indeed, Fulham have both scored and conceded in each of their last five matches in all competitions, and they’ve found the net in nine of their ten home games this season, only failing to score against title contenders Arsenal.

In contrast, betting on both teams to score in Forest’s matches has rarely paid off lately, with that outcome occurring just once in their last seven games across the Premier League and Europa League. That exception came in a 2-1 European win over FC Utrecht. Forest then dismantled Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 at the City Ground, with Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ibrahim Sangare combining for three goals and three assists. Regardless of Monday’s result, Dyche’s team will remain above the relegation zone at Christmas.

Forest’s recent form under Dyche has been impressive, winning six of their last eight matches in all competitions, suggesting they could end an unwanted trend at Craven Cottage. Historically, Fulham have won all three of their Premier League home meetings with Forest by an aggregate score of 9-1—the worst 100% losing record Forest hold against any opponent away from home in the competition.
