Nottingham Forest vs Tottenham Hotspur Premier League preview, team news and prediction

With European duties behind them this week, Nottingham Forest prepares to welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the City Ground. Both teams enjoyed European success in midweek: Spurs cruised to a 3-0 Champions League victory over Slavia Prague, while Forest edged out FC Utrecht 2-1 in the Europa League.
After a dismal November, Tottenham fans have reason to celebrate this December, as Thomas Frank looks to guide the Europa League winners to a third consecutive win in all competitions and extend their unbeaten streak to four matches.
Spurs ended last month with three straight defeats, but have since rebounded with two wins and a draw from their last three games, including a hard-fought point against Newcastle United before back-to-back victories over Brentford and Slavia Prague. While Tottenham’s home form has improved—last weekend’s 2-0 win over Brentford brought them within three points of fifth-placed Chelsea—they still find themselves in the bottom half of the table.
Frank is now aiming for his first three-game winning run as Tottenham head coach. However, Spurs’ away form has faltered recently, with three losses and a draw in their last four matches on the road. Despite this, their 15 Premier League away goals this season are the joint-most in the division, level with Chelsea, and they have scored at least twice in six of their seven away league games—the exception being their heavy defeat to Arsenal in the North London derby.
Tottenham have collected 14 points away from home this season, double Forest’s seven-point haul at the City Ground. After the turbulent spells under Nuno Espirito Santo and Postecoglou, Sean Dyche has brought much-needed stability to Forest. The former Burnley and Everton manager has overseen six wins, two draws, and just three defeats in his first 11 matches, fostering a positive atmosphere both domestically and in Europe, where Forest have taken 10 points from their last 12 available.
Thursday’s hard-fought win over Utrecht was the ideal response to a 3-0 Premier League loss to Everton, with Forest now sitting 17th—just two points above West Ham in the relegation zone. While Forest have conceded in every home league match this season, their record when finding the net is impressive: they are unbeaten in their last 11 Premier League games in which they have scored.
History is also on Forest’s side: Spurs have never won a Premier League match at the City Ground when conceding, and last season, Nuno Espirito Santo led Forest to a league double over Tottenham, including a memorable 1-0 Boxing Day win at home.
