Much was made of Manchester United's summer transfer business, as Ruben Amorim was allowed to further shape his squad at Old Trafford.

Backed by the club's hierarchy, over £200million was spent to overhaul the Red Devils' attack, with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko arriving. Senne Lammens joined too to be the club's new No.1 and the Belgian has impressed between the sticks.

There have also been outgoings, both permanently - Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea perhaps the most notable - and on temporary deals. Indeed, United have 18 players out on loan this season. Some, like Marcus Rashford , Rasmus Hojlund and Andre Onana, were pushed out in high-profile deals with Amorim having decided United needed to go in another direction - but with no-one willing to splash the cash straight away.

Then there are a plethora of youngsters - both signed with an eye to the future and those who have come through the academy - sent out on loan to gain experience. Some of those are thriving in new surroundings, while others haven't had the impact both they and the club may have hoped.

With all that being said, Mirror Football takes a look at the 18 players United has out on other clubs' books this season and how they're progressing...

The Cameroon international has been the subject of praise in the Turkish media since moving on loan to Trabzonspor. He has been a key part of a run of one defeat in eight league games, keeping three clean sheets and helping them to third in the table.

It's not quite a total rejuvenation of his career, but it might well be signs that the 29 year-old is back on track and will give United hope of being able to find a buyer at a decent price next summer.

The 22-year-old goalkeeper has been very important to Bristol City's solid start to the season, the No.1 pick for Gerhard Struber at Ashton Gate.

He has started every Championship game so far, keeping five clean sheets in the process and Struber has been impressed: “He’s young, and he looks like an outstanding, experienced Championship goalkeeper.”

After injury saw him miss the opening two games of the League Two season, Harrison started the next four matches for Shrewsbury Town before reporting for England Under-20 duty in September. In his absence, another young goalkeeper took his spot and Harrison has been on the outside looking in since.

The young right-back has made 13 league starts in League Two so far and gained valuable experience, albeit in a struggling dressing room.

Now Dave Hughes, who coached Ogunneye in United's academy, has just departed and that might impact Ogunneye's role in the squad moving forwards.

Aljofree, 20, started the first eight games of the campaign but he has lost his starting role over the last few weeks. When Notts County faced Harrogate Town last weekend he was missing from the squad.

Things haven't been going the way United had hoped for the centre-back in the National League.

Solihull Moors sit in mid-table, but Jackson has fallen from prominence. Since starting the opening two games of the season he has struggled to make the lineup since and has been absent from the past five matchday squads.

It's been a nightmare campaign for the Owls amid their ownership situation, barely being able to get a team out and with a 12-point deduction.

But Amass has been a bright spot. He's been given regular game time, making 11 stars and scored his first senior goal against Southampton . United are delighted with his time at Hillsborough so far and it looks like he'll extend his stay until the end of the season.

The 20 year-old is performing well in Scotland's top flight with Falkirk, who are enjoying a very respectable season so far, exceeding expectations and currently sitting fifth in the Premiership table.

William has contributed a goal and three assists in nine appearances in the Scottish top-flight for Falkirk, who are exceeding expectations by sitting fifth in the table.

The 19 year-old midfielder has made 15 appearances for Orient thus far in League One, but only four of those have been starts in the league.

As the season moves forwards, he'll be looking to force his way into the starting lineup, because there have been glimpses of quality throughout the campaign.

Midfielder Gore returned on loan to Rotherham in the summer, having initially joined in January, only to pick up an injury shortly after arriving.

This term, Gore has been crucial for Rotherham in midfield. He has started 15 games in League One and has been one of the Yorkshire club's best players.

Toby Collyer had to bide his time under Ryan Mason at The Hawthorns, making seven substitute appearances immediately after his arrival.

He broke into the starting team against Millwall last month and retained his role in the next game, but he has since picked up a muscle injury.

Ennis spent the second half of last season with promotion-winning Doncaster Rovers and subsequently joined Fleetwood on a season-long loan for the current campaign.

It's been something of a mixed bag so far, albeit a productive one, starting eight league games and contributing two goals and an assist. Now Ennis and United - and Fleetwood too - will be hoping he can kick on.

Things aren't going the way Jadon Sancho may have hoped in the West Midlands.

After seeing Chelsea pay £5million not to sign him, he is in something of a slump this season. The £73m winger has not started for Aston Villa in the Premier League and has failed to record a goal or an assist.

Barcelona seemed a great fit for Rashford to rediscover his form as he made the 'dream' move that he desperately wanted.

And Rashford has certainly looked reborn in Catalunya. He has contributed six goals and nine assists in 16 appearances this season, got himself back in the England reckoning under Thomas Tuchel and is making a major impact for the Blaugrana.

It's been interesting for the Dane back in Italy, where he made his name before joining United with Atalanta. Hojlund made an excellent first impression in Naples, scoring twice against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League shortly after his arrival, but he has scored just four goals in total.

His recent performances have seen him come in for some stick among the Italian media, with last season's title winners currently in fourth. His place will come under threat from Romelu Lukaku soon.

Young striker Wheatley needed to leave on loan after outgrowing academy football to get some senior action. He has made 13 starts in League Two for Northampton and has found the back of the net twice, as well as recording two assists.

Kana-Biyik was called up to France's Under-20 squad for the November internationals and recently scored his first senior goal, salvaging a point in a local derby.

A major disappointment for Hugill thanks to injury. He started the first two games of the League Two season, but hasn't been seen since.

His Old Trafford contract expires in June, but United have the option of extending the deal by 12 months.
