Three-way battle for Schlotterbeck: Bayern, BVB and Liverpool vie for DFB star

Nico Schlotterbeck is set to be one of the most exciting personalities of the coming months. While BVB are pushing for a contract extension, FC Bayern and Liverpool FC are already positioning themselves as serious alternatives.
Nico Schlotterbeck’s career has been on a steep upward trajectory for months. The centre-back consistently delivers strong performances, has established himself in the DFB team and is now one of the most valuable defenders in the Bundesliga. International interest is correspondingly high – and BVB is under pressure.
The 25-year-old’s contract expires in the summer of 2027. Borussia Dortmund would like to tie the top performer to a long-term contract and has already made him a new contract offer. But Schlotterbeck is hesitant .

According to media reports, the international has a contract ready to be signed, but it does not fully meet his financial expectations. And there is another reason for waiting: Schlotterbeck wants to observe BVB’s sporting development.
The defender has high ambitions – both in sporting and financial terms. And he knows that he has achieved an excellent market position with his performances. If BVB is unable to keep up with the national and international elite, a departure at the end of the season would not be out of the question.
Especially if Schlotterbeck decides against an extension.
While BVB are still waiting, other clubs are already active. According to Football Insider , two clubs in particular have the best cards in the transfer poker :fC Bayern Munich and Liverpool FC.
Both clubs could need reinforcements in the center of defence in the summer of 2026. At Liverpool, Ibrahima Konaté is threatening to leave on a free transfer – a scenario that should certainly not catch the Reds unprepared. At FC Bayern , Dayot Upamecano could leave the club at the end of his contract. In addition, Munich is already working on a defensive readjustment.
Schlotterbeck is an ideal candidate for both clubs due to his physicality, his build-up play and his experience at a high level.
