Tottenham confirm Son Heung-min return to say goodbye before UCL clash

Son Heung-min will return to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next week to say a formal farewell to supporters before the Champions League fixture against Slavia Prague .
The former Tottenham captain left in the summer to join Los Angeles FC, bringing an end to a decade in North London that included a Europa League trophy last season.
Tottenham confirmed that Son will take to the pitch before kick-off and will have an opportunity to address the crowd before the players walk out.
Son announced his departure during the club’s pre-season tour in South Korea and admitted he did not get the chance to say goodbye properly before leaving.
“When I announced my decision in the summer, it was in Korea and I never got a proper chance to say goodbye to fans at the stadium,” he said.
Son joined Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 and scored 173 goals in all competitions, placing him fifth on the club’s all-time scoring list.
He was made captain by Ange Postecoglou and went on to lift the Europa League trophy in Bilbao, ending the club’s 17-year run without silverware.
His final appearance for Tottenham came in a friendly against Newcastle United in Seoul in August, which doubled as the moment he publicly confirmed his exit.
He moved directly to MLS and has made an immediate impact, scoring 14 goals in 13 appearances for Los Angeles FC as the club built its attack around him.
Tottenham also confirmed that work has begun on a street mural celebrating Son on Tottenham High Road, which will serve as a permanent tribute to his influence.
The artwork is being installed close to the stadium and is designed to reflect his status as one of the club’s most popular players.
Son’s departure marked the end of one of the most productive modern attacking partnerships in English football, with his combination play alongside Harry Kane becoming a key part of Tottenham’s identity.
His return is expected to draw a significant crowd and bring a sentimental backdrop to a European fixture that arrives during an unsettled spell on the pitch.
