Tuchel's brutal one-word jibe as he reveals 96-cap England's star's career over

THOMAS TUCHEL revealed that Kyle Walker’s England career is over with a brutal one-word putdown.

The veteran defender, 35, won the last of his 96 caps in the 2-0 win over Albania in March.

But Walker is yet to receive another call from Tuchel ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

And he was once again left out when the German revealed his latest England squad for this month’s games against Wales and Latvia.

Tuchel gave priority to Chelsea’s Reece James and Tottenham’s Djed Spence, who can also provide cover at left-back.

And even the absence of Real Madrid’s Trent Alexander-Arnold was not enough to earn Walker a recall.

The six-time Premier League winner may feel hard done by, having featured in all six of Burnley’s top-flight matches this season.

But Tuchel indicated that Walker’s international career is finished after admitting he had NOT informed the right-back of his latest snub.

That’s despite ringing six other axed stars to explain why they were out of his latest group.

Tuchel revealed the effective end of Walker’s time with England with a brutal one-word answering, replying “no” when asked whether he had called the defender in the past 24 hours.

The answer was compounded by Tuchel admitting he had spoken to Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish.

He also rang Adam Wharton, Trevoh Chalobah and Curtis Jones after the six aces were left out.

Tuchel claimed he would have lost credibility had he made a number of changes to the squad which did so well in the 5-0 win over Serbia last month.

He said: “Belgrade was just on a new level. Maybe it was a coincidence. Maybe it was the mixture of the group. Who knows? It was my team’s best camp, it was my team’s best performance. It was the best result, a big result.

“The behaviour on the bench, the support from the bench, support from training, the competition, the togetherness, enabled the 11 to play like they played. I strongly believe that. And it’s not against Phil, it’s not against Jack, it’s not against Jude.

“It is for the guys who were in camp and who performed at this kind of level. Why would I change this? I didn’t want to leave anyone out who was in the last camp. What would be my explanation to leave them out and also be authentic in my words?

“After the Serbia match I went into the dressing room and I told them what I have just told you. Imagine I then leave four players out, and say, ‘Now I take A,B,C and D, and not you’ — what would you think as a player?

“They would say: ‘Didn’t you tell me that was exactly how you wanted it, and now I’m out?’ Would you not think that? For credibility, as a coach, you need to walk the talk.”
