Benjamin Sesko's Man United return in doubt after a bout of FOOD POISONING - having already spent over a month out with a knee injury

Benjamin Sesko's return to action for Manchester United has been thrown into doubt by a bout of food poisoning.

The Slovenia striker has missed the last four games since limping out of United’s draw at Tottenham last month with a knee injury.

Sesko looked to be on course to return against Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Monday night, but Ruben Amorim revealed that he has been ill.

‘Ben, we have to see,’ said the United boss. ‘We have to see if he’s available. He has some food poisoning, but let’s wait, we have two training sessions still. We’ll assess him.’

Amorim also confirmed that centre-backs Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire will miss the clash with Andoni Iraola’s side.

Teenager Ayden Heaven has started the last two games against West Ham and Wolves in the absence of De Ligt and Maguire.

‘Maguire is out, De Ligt is out,’ said Amorim. ‘De Ligt has something in his back, I don’t know for sure. You see it’s not a big injury but he has some pain. We have to be careful with that.’

Bournemouth are without a win in six games, losing four of them, but the Cherries have won 3-0 on their last two trips to Old Trafford. No team have won by three or more goals in three consecutive away games at United.

‘It’s a top team, a top manager with special players,’ said Amorim. ‘I don’t look to the results, I look at the way they face every opponent.

'They press really strong, they are direct in the game. That gives us a lot of options to prepare the game. I expect a really tough game, but we need to win, especially at home.’
