Mohamed Zongo, the next young gem on United’s radar
Manchester United are keeping a close watch on the ongoing U17 World Cup, hoping to unearth the next superstar.
The Peoples Person has already relayed how scouts have looked at three of the brightest emerging talents from the competition — Felipe Esquivel of Argentina, Republic of Ireland’s Michael Noonan and Mali’s Seydou Dembele .
Now, Africa Foot have revealed that the Red Devils are also eyeing a swoop for Burkina Faso wonderkid Mohamed Zongo .
Capable of playing as an attacking midfielder as well as out wide, the 15-year-old ended the tournament with two goals and three assists.
And his performances have caught the eye of multiple European giants like Manchester City, Villarreal, and Anderlecht, apart from the Red Devils.
The report mentions that his academy, Sporting Football des Cascades, have been approached by United regarding a future move. A deal is yet to be cracked.
“Having burst onto the scene at the U17 World Cup, young Burkinabe Mohamed Zongo is setting the internet ablaze. Football fans have fallen under his spell, and major clubs have their eyes on this young prodigy.
“According to exclusive information from Africafoot , the Tenakourou Academy has been approached by several clubs for discussions regarding Mohamed Zongo . Our sources have confirmed that Manchester United is indeed interested.
“However, other clubs, including Manchester City, Villarreal, and Anderlecht, were also in talks with the Tenakourou Academy management on Friday. At the moment, all options are being considered, and no agreement has been reached.”
The Daily Mail have described the Burkinabe wonderkid as “an extremely gifted box-to-box midfielder who is mature beyond his years in dictating matches.”
His strengths include his his ability to pick out passes while also excelling in defensive contributions.
He has already earned the moniker — “the next-gen Yaya Toure”. United could certainly do with a talent like that.
